CFA Level I exam in Canada
Whether you work in Toronto, Montréal, Vancouver or another Canadian community, plan around your own working hours rather than a distant study partner’s calendar. A routine that survives busy client weeks is more useful than one tied to a single city.
A study routine across Canadian time zones
Use the guide below to separate registration decisions, study time and timed practice. Confirm the current exam arrangements with CFA Institute before you book.
CFA Level I exam fees: Plan a Canadian budget without guessing an exchange rate
Set aside room for the registration charge, any travel and your preparation materials. For a Canadian-dollar account, check your bank’s USD conversion and foreign transaction terms before paying. Keep a dated receipt for your own records.
CFA Institute publishes exam fees in USD. Select Level I and your exam window on its fee page; check CFA Institute for current fees. Use the selector to confirm the amount applicable to your chosen window. Source checked on 27 October 2026.

The CFA exam is computer-based at Prometric test centres. Register with CFA Institute, then schedule your appointment through its scheduling process. Check CFA Institute and the linked Prometric service for local centres, scheduling windows and available appointments. Registration and appointment scheduling are separate steps; do not assume a particular location or seat is available.

Build a week that works across time zones
- Allocate four weekday sessions of forty-five minutes to reading and closed-book recall. Alternate the two activities so that earlier material returns before it fades.
- Add a three-hour weekend question block and two hours for reviewing errors and retrying them. That gives an eight-hour example week, with extra reading time added according to your progress.
- For an interprovincial study group, share written explanations asynchronously and rotate any live meeting. Record the meeting time zone explicitly, particularly when clocks change.
Use a realistic Mock Exam to guide revision
Practise a timed sitting at the hour shown in your own appointment, rather than at a partner’s local time. Use topic-level mistakes to choose the next week’s reading instead of repeating familiar questions.
Use a timed Mock Exam to practise pacing, flagging difficult questions and returning to them within the clock. Compare your topic coverage with the current CFA Institute Level I topic weights. Afterwards, record why each mistake happened, revisit the underlying concept and retry it after a gap. A practice score helps direct revision; it does not predict an exam result. Start with free Mock Exam 1; an account is required.

How can a Canadian study group span several time zones?
Agree on a named time zone for live meetings and circulate a short written problem set beforehand. Members can compare reasoning asynchronously without giving up their best individual study hours.
Can I budget the exam fee in Canadian dollars?
Use the USD amount in the current CFA Institute fee selector as the starting point. Obtain conversion and payment charges from your own provider rather than treating a guide’s exchange rate as a quote.
What if winter travel could affect my appointment?
Check the confirmed location and travel options in advance. Allow a practical buffer and consult CFA Institute and the appointment provider for any disruption instructions; do not assume a booking can be changed without conditions.
Should I use French-language notes alongside exam preparation?
Personal notes can help you understand a concept, but practise reading questions and technical vocabulary in the language required for your booked exam. Check CFA Institute for current exam language policies.
How do I study during a demanding client season?
Use a maintenance week with brief retrieval sessions and a weekend review of existing errors. Reduce new material deliberately, then revise your calendar rather than silently carrying an expanding backlog.
