CFA Level I exam in the United Kingdom
For a candidate working in London finance, or combining a role elsewhere in the UK with study, the challenge is often protecting attention after the working day. Build a routine around your actual commute and reporting deadlines rather than an ideal quiet week.
London hours, UK commutes and protected weekends
Use the guide below to separate registration decisions, study time and timed practice. Confirm the current exam arrangements with CFA Institute before you book.
CFA Level I exam fees: Budget from a UK bank account
Keep the CFA Institute registration charge separate from travel, accommodation and preparation costs. If you pay from a sterling account, ask your card provider how it handles a USD transaction; the amount on your statement need not match a headline exchange rate.
CFA Institute publishes exam fees in USD. Select Level I and your exam window on its fee page; check CFA Institute for current fees. Use the selector to confirm the amount applicable to your chosen window. Source checked on 27 October 2026.

The CFA exam is computer-based at Prometric test centres. Register with CFA Institute, then schedule your appointment through its scheduling process. Check CFA Institute and the linked Prometric service for local centres, scheduling windows and available appointments. Registration and appointment scheduling are separate steps; do not assume a particular location or seat is available.

Protect mornings before the London working day
- Use three weekday mornings for an hour of new material before email. Keep two evenings for half an hour of retrieval practice, revisiting topics studied earlier in the week.
- Reserve a three-hour weekend block for mixed questions and a separate hour to review your error log. This example totals eight hours; extend it when your remaining syllabus and exam date require more time.
- During a reporting deadline or late client week, retain the short recall sessions and move new learning to the weekend. Revisit missed concepts the following week before adding another topic.
Use a realistic Mock Exam to guide revision
Use a quiet weekend morning to practise pacing before a crowded working week. Record where calculations consume too much time and where a hurried reading changes your answer.
Use a timed Mock Exam to practise pacing, flagging difficult questions and returning to them within the clock. Compare your topic coverage with the current CFA Institute Level I topic weights. Afterwards, record why each mistake happened, revisit the underlying concept and retry it after a gap. A practice score helps direct revision; it does not predict an exam result. Start with free Mock Exam 1; an account is required.

Can I prepare while commuting in the UK?
Use a train journey for formula recall or reading your error log if you can concentrate safely. Save calculator work and timed Mock Exam practice for a desk; fragmented travel time is a supplement to focused study.
How should I handle a late London workday?
Move difficult new reading to the next protected morning. A short recall session after work can preserve continuity without turning fatigue into a long session of passive reading.
Should I plan study leave before booking travel?
Confirm your exam appointment first, then arrange leave and a practical travel buffer. A preferred location or time should remain provisional until it appears in your booking confirmation.
Does paying from a UK account change the listed exam fee?
CFA Institute lists fees in USD. Your provider determines any sterling conversion and transaction charges; check both the current Institute fee and your payment terms.
What should a UK study group do each week?
Bring one unresolved concept and explain the reasoning behind a previous mistake. Keep social discussion separate from an individual timed session so that pacing remains measurable.
